The Experience

Our clients were empty nesters and long-time Oregon residents. They bought an 11-year-old custom home in the Council Crest neighborhood designed by Telford Brown Architecture.

In the initial conversation, the client expressed they loved the house but really wanted to make it their own. They were moving from a suburban home where they had lived for more than 20 years and wanted to take this opportunity to create a completely fresh modern look for their home that reflected their current taste and lifestyle. “I don’t want to bring any furniture from the old house.”

With this in mind, we evaluated what finishes needed to change, and what could be preserved. We painted, refinished floors, and replaced the bathroom and kitchen tile, as well as all the light fixtures. All of the original maple casework was touched up and preserved. In addition to sourcing the furnishings, we also consulted on their art to give the house a complete and cohesive look.

We redesigned the fireplace in the living room so the new design takes advantage of the generous ceiling height and becomes a stunning focal point for the room. The tile is a thin-slab large format porcelain that creates a clean and seamless plane. The kitchen cabinets are original, but we elevated the space with new lighting, countertops, and tile. The full wall backsplash highlights how thoughtful use of materials can greatly impact a room. The primary bathroom was resurfaced, including redesigning the bathtub and shower. The new shower room also uses thin slab tile, giving it a modern European feel.
