BLENDING TRADITIONAL STYLE AND SCANDINAVIAN SOPHISTICATION
This 1930’s Colonial is a grand, historic home located in Portland’s Eastmoreland neighborhood. The first phase of the design process was conducted via Skype meetings while our clients summered abroad. New finishes and furnishings were selected, including flooring, lighting, paint, wallpaper, and window coverings. During the second phase, we tackled the oppressive, dark kitchen. Our design removed the work of a previous remodel that had segmented the space, replacing it with a cozy, built-in breakfast area. We also removed the wall separating the dining room and kitchen, and installed a cased opening flanked on either side by custom cabinetry in keeping with the original millwork. The result is an open kitchen that allows the cook and diners to converse while maintaining the traditional style of the house.
